What is Kindred?
A breath-led wellness ecosystem supporting movement, recovery, and embodied wellbeing.
Why Breath?
Breath is where movement begins.
It influences how we regulate stress, support our pelvic health, recover from illness and surgery, and navigate transitions such as menopause. Every breath coordinates a relationship between the diaphragm, ribcage, abdominal wall, spine, and pelvic floor—creating the foundation for movement, stability, and wellbeing.
At Kindred Movement, breath is not simply something we do. It is the organising principle behind how we move, recover, and reconnect with ourselves.
Because when breath functions well, the whole system benefits.
The Story Behind Kindred
Kindred Movement was born from a simple observation:
when people learn to breathe better, they often move better, recover better, and feel more at home in their bodies.
For more than two decades, founder Julia Willmott had witnessed the powerful relationship between breath, movement, pelvic health, and nervous system regulation through her work in Pilates and women’s wellbeing.
But it was a personal experience of breast cancer diagnosis, surgery, and recovery that brought a deeper understanding of breath’s role in physical and emotional resilience.
During a period marked by uncertainty, waiting, and treatment, breath became more than a movement tool. It became an anchor.
What emerged was a more integrated approach—one that combined Pilates, yoga, meditation, women’s health education, and breath-informed practice into a single philosophy.
Today, Kindred Movement is built on the belief that movement is not performance.
It is awareness ✦ It is regulation ✦ It is breath
And through breath, we create the conditions for strength, recovery, connection, and wellbeing.
Meet Julia
Julia Willmott is a Pilates teacher, yoga teacher, mindfulness coach, and founder of Kindred Movement.
With more than 20 years’ experience supporting women through movement and wellbeing, her work brings together Pilates, yoga, meditation, breath education, pelvic health, and nervous system regulation.
Julia is a graduate of the Breathe Better programme developed by Michelle Lyons and Jenny Burrell, which explores the relationship between breath mechanics, pelvic health, and whole-body function.
Alongside extensive professional training, Julia’s approach has been shaped by her own experience of navigating breast cancer treatment and recovery, deepening her understanding of the connection between breath, resilience, healing, and embodied wellbeing.
Today, she teaches from a simple belief: when we learn to work with the body rather than against it, we create the conditions for lasting health, strength, and connection.
